Volleyball Scrimmage

Our Lady Warriors Volleyball team had some fun on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 scrimmaging Berea, Euclid and Garfield Heights at Garfield Heights High School. Our girls lacked experience entering into their magnificent gym, but made some gains.  As head volleyball coach Rhonda Scharf put it, “You can not coach experience.”  Way to go Ladies!

OHSAA Preseason Fall Parent/Student Meeting

Our 4:00 p. m. mandatory meeting was the biggest ever for our school since we became members of the OHSAA.  Any parents or students interested in knowing what the meeting entailed need only to go to the OHSAA website to download and view their Preseason Meeting Powerpoint.  It can be found in the left tab

More girls than I have ever seen come out for Volleyball

This morning when I arrived at school, to my surprise, there were over 30 girls out for Volleyball. Some of these girls are also willing to double.  They intend to do more than one  Interscholastic sport during the same season.  We applaud them and say “Thank you”.

First Annual Physicals were a success.

Thanks to the cooperation of students, parents, coaches and staff of the Athletics Department of Cleveland Metro Schools, all went well.  At least 80%  of our student-athletes got it done.  This effort will save us time and money.  It is wonderful to know up front that our student-athletes, Middle School and High School have completed this basic

Two-A-Days Anyone?

Our Warriors Football Team starts Two-A-Day practices from Monday, August 1st to Friday, August 12th.  There will be an away scrimmage on Saturday, August 13th against Open Door Christian Schools Inc.

Tennis Practice has started.

Our Girls’ Tennis Team is slowly but surely coming along.  We are encouraging more girls to come out and give it a try just in case they do not make the Volleyball or the Cross Country Team. Conversely, remember, at Whitney Young we encourage everyone to play multiple sports.  Think of it as a form

Fall Preseason Parent Meeting Coming Soon

When:  Thursday, August 4, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. at Whitney M. Young Facilitator:  Rodney Russell, Athletic Director Mr. Russell will do a brief OHSAA presentation.  Coaches will do a longer breakout session detailing the specifics of our coordinated philosophy.

Cameron Freeman

This young man is a sophomore at Whitney M. Young Leadership Academy.  He didn’t do anything physical at our school last year.  He was totally focused on getting A’s.  Academics are number one for him and that will not change, but he has started to come to football conditioning sessions.  More than once this summer

Volleyball Conditioning

Many conscientious Lady Warriors are giving up a little of their summer break to sweat themselves into condition to win this fall. We are hoping that the numbers increase.  Perhaps through word of mouth more girls will buy into our new system and philosophy. Good job ladies! Thank you Coach Scharf!
